Abstract

This study explored perceptions and experiences of gender within Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) through an online survey of 36 female and 34 male participants. Findings revealed a discrepancy between the gender balance of the study sample and the broader profession. While most women perceived men as significantly outnumbered, men were more evenly split on this perception. Most women believed men possessed unique advantages in connecting with male clients and contributing diverse perspectives. Male participants reported significantly more experiences with gender-related challenges, including assumptions, exclusion, differential treatment, and harassment. These findings highlight the ongoing impact of gender dynamics in a female-dominated profession and suggest areas for further research and attention, professional development, and institutional support.
