Abstract
Many individuals with autism report gastrointestinal disorders, which are believed to be influenced by chemical imbalances in the stomach. Recent research has revealed compelling connections between the severity of central nervous system disorders and imbalances in gut microbiota, a complex ecosystem of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other entities, residing in the human digestive tract. This suggests an association between gut microbiota imbalances and the severity of autism symptoms. This study aims to investigate speech-language pathologists' (SLPs) understanding of the relationship between gut microbiota imbalances and the severity of autism symptoms. Findings indicate a significant gap in SLPs' knowledge regarding the impact of gut microbiomes on individuals with autism. This deficiency in understanding may impede the quality of care and recommendations provided by SLPs to their clients and their families.
