Abstract
This quantitative study aimed to identify the challenges faced by school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). The findings reveal that the diagnosis of CAS is often characterized by inconsistent criteria and significant barriers, including high productivity demands and a lack of clear guidelines. While treatment effectiveness is generally perceived as occasionally successful, commonly employed interventions, such as low-tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), are frequently viewed as ineffective. However, various treatment methods, including the PROMPT technique with tactile-kinesthetic prompts, ultrasound biofeedback, and integrated phonological awareness approaches, show promise for improving outcomes in children with CAS.
