Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate knowledge and practice about spasticity among graduate students in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology. Method: The knowledge, confidence, and treatment agreement of graduate students were assessed using a Qualtrics survey. The survey asked about demographics, spasticity knowledge, confidence in identification, and treatment agreement. Results: A total of 47 graduate students completed the survey. A majority of graduate students reported knowing spasticity falls in a range of severity, it is important to quantify and measure spasticity, and the difference between spasticity and spasms. Graduate students had varying levels of knowledge, confidence, and treatment agreement. Conclusions: This is the first study of spasticity to involve graduate students and individuals in the field of speech language pathology. Further studies involving spasticity knowledge, confidence, and treatment agreeance among this population will be beneficial.
