Abstract

Background: The topic of oral hygiene is included in multiple professions, such as speech-language pathology (SLP), occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), and dentistry. There needs to be interprofessional collaboration to ensure best practice provide to the clients. In this study, we look at the oral hygiene opinions of students studying these professions. We took into account the year they were in, their field, and their own personal oral hygiene practices. Methods: We distributed the survey to students studying SLP, OT, PT, and dentistry at A.T. Still University in Arizona. Results: A total of 91 students completed the survey. Most students agreed that dentistry is in charge of oral hygiene, but everyone does feel like educating the clients about oral hygiene is important. 93.5% of the participants disagreed that poor oral will not affect quality of life. We can take preventative measures when it comes to oral hygiene. Conclusion: This research suggests that we need to learn more about oral hygiene in interprofessional collaborations.
