Abstract
Clear overlay orthodontic appliances were introduced in 1946 by Kesling, who used a series of thermoplastic positioners to gradually improve tooth posi-tions.1 Some five decades later, Align Technology launched Invis-align,* integrating modern technol-ogies with Kesling’s concept. The demand for treatment with clear aligners has increased substantial-ly in recent years, especially among adults, because they are more es-thetically appealing and comfort-able than conventional fixed appli-ances.2-4 Thanks to this growing demand and extensive marketing by aligner companies, both orthodontists and general dentists are now familiar with CAT.5.
