Primary Care Occupational Therapy: a Quick Reference Guide

Abstract

This chapter provides a brief overview of research processes and why research is important for the profession of occupational therapy, in general, and within the context of primary care, specifically. Examples of study designs and stages of research are provided, with an explanation of the types of designs that are optimal for clinicians to use in a primary care context. As primary care is an area of emerging practice for occupational therapy, it is important for occupational therapy practitioners to systematically document and share their experience in order to lay a strong foundation for evidence-based practice in the primary care context.
