Abstract
Cleft lip and/or palate is the fourth most common birth defect in the USA, with treatment that is completed by multiple different specialties. The current standard of care is for treatment to be completed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, plastic surgeon, otolaryngologist, orthodontist, dentist, speech pathologist, speech therapist, audiologist, geneticist, social worker, and nurse coordinator. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, you should be familiar with the overall treatment plan for children born with this defect with special attention directed to the surgical procedure.
